This weekend was pretty relaxing at our house. Quiet night on Friday just stayed in and watched a movie. For some reason when I woke up on Saturday I wanted to bake cookies*. I had everything I needed at home to bake them so I got to it. Baby Girl was fascinated by the entire process. She got really anxious for me to hold her towards the end of mixing, so I sat her on the counter gave her a spatula and let her “help”. Wow, it was amazing. She really enjoyed stirring in the chocolate chips, and then… the spatula went in the mouth. Let’s just say that my 17 month old LOVES cookie dough. Her eyes lit up like she had just discovered the most wonderful thing in the world. And shame on me because I let her have it. (Not a lot of course!) She would hand the spatula back to me and say “please”, and I’d give her a tiiiiiny little bit. I think I might have created a cookie monster. No, seriously.
That night we got a sitter (hallelujah!) and went out with some friends. We had dinner, and went bowling. And really we had a great time. There was lots of laughter and cheap bowling alley beer
At one point while my husband was flexing his muscles in an effort to show how manly he was for getting a strike… he completely ripped his shirt. He was trying to be funny and cute, and well he was definitely funny. When it ripped we both looked at each other and laughed so hard we cried. That my friends was a great night.
The next morning Baby Girl woke up at the crack of dawn, better known as 7:30 am. So with my cheap beer hangover I got up and laid on the couch and let her play. Of course she grew tired of it rather quickly and wanted me to play with her. In my exhausted state, I was more annoyed than playful so I did something I have never done before… I put on cartoons. This might not sound to bad, or be weird in some houses. In fact when people have small kids usually the tv is on with cartoons blaring constantly. But definitely not in our house. We decided when we were still pregnant that we didnt want to have a baby that was hooked on tv. And until Sunday, we have never put on cartoons or kid shows for our daughter. (I know that they are on at her daycare because there are older toddlers there that watch them.) I felt bad for using the tv to distract my kid, but really – I was too damn tired to care. And it did work, she would watch 10 – 15 minutes at a time, go play, and then watch again. I got another hour of rest, let the tylenol kick in, and I was good to go.
*After the cookies were done my husband came home from shopping and asked what kind they were. I replied “Tollhouse”. He was really confused and literally had NO idea what a Nestle Tollhouse Cookie was. Maybe its not common, and its just my family that calls them that. But it was the recipe from the chocolate chip bag…. the Nestle Tollhouse Morsels. He thought I was weird, and I said - ditto.
